Pencil

In this guide you will push your sketching skills to the next level by using the coincident constraint tool. This will allow you to have much greater control over the positioning of the elements in your sketches.

New Sketch on the bottom plane

Go to the Create menu, then Polygon, then select inscribed polygon. Click the centre, move mouse out and click again.

Select the dimension tool, then two opposite sides of the polygon. Set the distance to 6mm.

Zoom in. Click on the Horizontal / Vertical Constraint tool from the toolbar. Click a almost vertical edge.

Draw a Centre Rectangle at the origin larger than the polygon. Set its width and height to 15mm. Finish Sketch.

Use the Extrude tool to extrude the polygon vertically to 160mm

New Sketch on the Front Plane

Select the Circle tool then draw a 10mm diameter circle off to the side of the pencil

Use the Line tool to draw a vertical line between two points on the circle edge.

Click the Coincident constraint tool in the toolbar. Click the Line followed by the centre point of the circle.

Select the Coincident tool again. Click on the line followed by the Origin point of the sketch.

Select the Dimension Tool. Click the bottom end of the line then the Origin point of the sketch. Set the distance to 2mm.

Zoom in then use the Line Tool to draw a horizontal line from the Sketch Origin to the right edge of the circle.

Finish Sketch

Click the Revolve Tool. Click the profile shown. Click the word 'select' next to the word 'Axis' in the panel on the right. Click the vertical line of our sketch. Click Ok.

Show the initial sketch

Select the Extrude tool. Click the outer profile and drag the blue arrow downwards.

New Sketch on the Front Plane

Use the Line Tool to draw a vertical line from the origin to 170mm

Use the Line Tool to draw a line from the top of the previous line to the right side of the pencil as shown.

Select the Dimension Tool. Click the vertical line followed by the end point of the diagonal line. Move your mouse down and set the distance to 5mm.

Select the Dimension Tool. Click the top point of the vertical line, then the end point of the diagonal line. Move your mouse right. Set the distance to 45mm.

Use the Line Tool to draw two lines as shown.

Finish Sketch

Select the Revolve Tool in the toolbar. Click the profile if not already selected. Click the central vertical line. Click Ok.

Zoom in to the top. Select the fillet tool followed by the top flat surface. Type 1mm and click Ok.

Go to File then Save to save your complete pencil 3D model!!
