Mug

In this guide you will build on the skills you learnt from the Simple Cup guide. You will use two tools you haven't seen before, the pipe tool and the split body tool. Both will allow you to create a realistic handle for the mug.

New Sketch on the bottom plane. Draw a circle in the centre of the sketch and set the diameter to 60mm.

Draw a second circle in the centre. Select the Dimension tool. Click the outer circle then the inner circle and type 3mm.

Finish Sketch. Select the Extrude tool followed by the outer edge of the circle. Extrude to 60mm. Click Ok.

Show the Sketch. Select the Extrude tool then the inner and outer profiles of the sketch. Extrude to -3mm. Click Ok.

Create a new sketch on the Front Plane. Draw two horizontal lines near the top and bottom of the mug as shown.

Go to Create then Arc then select Centre Point Arc. Click somewhere inbetween the lines, move out and click again then move round and click for a third time as shown. Use the Coincident constraint tool to join the arc to the lines as shown.

Select the Tangent constraint tool. Click the first line then the circle. Click the second line then the circle. Switch to the select tool and drag to create the desired handle proportions.

Finish Sketch. Go to Create then Pipe. Select the lines of the sketch. Set the Section Size to 8mm. Change the mode to New Body as shown. Click OK.

Go to Modify then select the Split Body tool. Click the handle. Click the 'select' box next to the words splitting tool. Click the inner surface of the mug. Click ok. Hide the two bodies as shown.

Select the Combine tool. Click the cup and then the handle. Click Ok.

Double click the second Sketch in the Timeline. Adjust the position of the lines. Click Finish Sketch to see the handle update.
