Lego Block

The Lego Block is an incredible piece of design and in this guide you will make a Lego Block based off the original specifications. You will use two tools you haven't seen before, the Rectangular Pattern tool and the Shell tool.

New Sketch on the Bottom Plane

Draw a Centre Rectangle in the centre of the Sketch

Select the Dimension tool and set the Width of the rectangle to 31.8mm

Set the Height of the Rectangle to 15.8mm

Select the Circle tool. Click once near the bottom left corner. Move your mouse out and type 4.8mm. Press Enter.

Select the Dimension Tool. Click on the centre of the circle then the bottom edge of the rectangle. Set this spacing to 3.9mm.

Repeat the previous step but between the circle centre and the left edge of the rectangle. Set this spacing to 3.9mm.

Change to the Select tool

Go to the 'Create' menu and select the 'Rectangular Pattern' tool. Click on the circle. Drag one arrow up and one to the right as shown.

Modify the 'Quantity' fields in the panel to the right. 4 repetitions in the width and 2 repetitions in the height.

Change the 'Distance' field of both directions to -8mm. Click Ok.

Select the Line tool. Draw a line between the centre of the top left circle and the centre of the circle second from the left on the bottom row.

Draw another line from the top right circle centre to the second from the right circle centre on the bottom row.

Select the Circle Tool. Move your cursor near the centre of the left line. A 'blue triangle' will appear when at the lines centre. Click and type 6.5mm.

Draw a circle at the centre of the sketch with a diameter of 6.5mm. Draw a second circle at the centre of the right line also with diameter 6.5mm.

Click the line on the left. Go to the panel on the right of the screen and click on the first icon next to the word 'linetype'. Repeat this for the second line.

Click Finish Sketch

Select the Extrude tool then select all of the profiles on the sketch. Extrude up to 9.6mm.

Show the Sketch by clicking the eye icon in the hierarchy

Select the Extrude tool then select all of the smaller circles in the Sketch. Type 11.4mm. Then change the 'Operation' to 'Join' in the panel on the right.

Hide the Sketch.

Select the Shell Tool in the Toolbar. Click on the bottom face of the block. Type 1.5mm. Press Ok.

Show the Sketch. Select the Extrude tool then the three larger circles. Type 8.6mm. Change the 'Operation' to 'Join'. Click Ok.

Hide the Sketch

Select the Shell Tool. Select the bottoms of the three cylindrical posts. Type 0.8mm and press Ok.

Open the 'Bodies' folder in the hierarchy. Right click on the body and select 'Move / Copy'. Check the box labeled 'Create Copy'. Adjust position using the arrows.

Repeat the previous step to create a unique assembly of 4x2 Lego Blocks. Use the Rotation Handles to rotate the copies.
